Animal Counting
A while back when I was following a looser version of the paleo diet I would sometimes count the number of different animals I would eat in a single day. Back then I was focusing more on the meat part of the diet because that was the more fun and tastier part of my diet. I think my record was something like 12 animals, though it was on a cheat day because I included some sushi in there to up my animal count.
Now I am on a much stricter version of the paleo diet. I am focusing more on being healthy and well balanced, so I pay more attention to eating a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. I think it is appropriate that instead of animal counting from now on, I will count fruits and vegetable and compete with myself to see how high I can go.
It is healthier to eat a wide selection of fruits and vegetables so you can get all the essential vitamins and minerals needed to stay healthy. It is important to eat as many different colors of fruits and vegetables as well because the different colored fruits and vegetables tend to have different nutrients in them.
So today my total count for fruits and vegetables is 15. I ate carrots, tomatoes, blackberries, grapes, strawberries, celery, bell pepper, kale, lemon, orange juice, lettuce, spinach, zucchini, onion and broccoli. I was just at the grocery store and could have just bought a million different fruits but I didn’t want to force myself to buy stuff I didn’t want or need and I didn’t want to overeat either. In the future I know I will top 15 so I am leaving room to grow.
Leave a comment and tell me how many fruits and vegetables did you eat today? What were they?
Update: My goal was to lose 1.5 pounds this week and get down to 174 lbs. This morning I weighed in at 172.5 lbs. So I guess I should set a more difficult goal, 171.5 lbs.
